Fire at Sydney International Aquatic Centre

Photo

So there I was, minding my own business, when I started hearing loud popping sounds from outside. It was windy, so I figured something was blowing around outside.

Then I went to the other room and saw black smoke billowing from Sydney International Aquatic Centre. It turns out that a small bush fire started near some parked cars, and the way that unfolded is fairly self explanatory. The popping I was hearing was probably tyres exploding.

Sydney Morning Herald reports that about 40 cars have been destroyed, but nobody’s been injured. I’m not linking to them because they got the suburb wrong, and the suburb they did choose to write about was spelt incorrectly. (Sydney Olympic Park is officially now a suburb, and before that it was Homebush, not “Homebuish” as SMH would have us believe)
